F-16 Fighting Falcon
The F-16 was was a single engine, multirole aircraft developed by General Dynamics (which is now Lockheed Martin).
This aircraft is one of the most widely used in the world, it's known for its versatility, agility, and affordability.
- Prototype version was the YF-16.
- First flight in January, 1974; officially introduced in August, 1978.
- Initially developed for air superiority,later evolved to a multirole capability and EW upgrades.
- More than 25 other nations operate this aircraft, including NATO allies and partners.
- Variants of the F-16 include A/B, C/D, E/F, Viper, MLU, and ADF.
F-15 Eagle
The F-15 Eagle was a twin-engine, all-weather air superiority fighter developed by McDonnell Douglas (now Boeing).
The aircraft still remains one of the most successful fighters ever built due to its combat record.
- First flight was July, 1972.
- Officially introduced in January, 1976.
- Record of over 100 air-to-air victories and 0 losses.
- Some of the other countries that operate the F-15 are, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Israel, and a few others.
- Variants of the F-15 include A/B/C/D/J, and the DJ.
- F-15E strike Eagle, dual-role fighter with advanced radar.
- F-15EX II, latest USAF version with open mission systems, and extended service life.
F-14 Tomcat
The F-14 Tomcat was widely know as the iconic Topgun fighter jet from the movies, which was origionally developed by Grumman Aerospace (later part of Northrop Grumman).
The Tomcat is a twin-engine aircraft with variable-sweep wings (meaning they can fold in).
- First flight was December, 1970.
- Official introduction in September, 1974.
- Different variants of F-14 include, A/B, and D.
- Carrier based aircraft.
F-18 Hornet
The F-18 is a versatile carrier-capable, twin-engine multirole jet which was developed by McDonnell and Northrop in the 1970's. The U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Navy operated the Hornet.
- First flight was in November of 1978.
- Variants of F-18 include A/B/C/D and the Super Hornet G/E.
- Carrier-capable aircraft.
- Official introduction in 1983 and 84'.
